I am not going to lie. When I teach history I don’t want to ever use multiple choice tests. My hope is to use mostly short answer tests where students have to analyze information rather than repeat information back to me with objective questions. All that these types of test really do is show that students can memorize a list and lists very rarely are what real life is made of. I want to encourage writing and oral skills in my test and perhaps even have oral tests in the classroom. I want to use non-traditional testing methods like having student debates, projects, inquiry based projects, group work, and much more. I know that I might have to give MC tests every now and then, but this is not my desire.
